About Me

Stephen MacGarry
BA(1st Hons) Counselling and Psychotherapy

Hi, I'm Stephen,
I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist working in Dublin. I have a first-class honours degree in counselling and psychotherapy from the Irish College of Humanities and Applied Sciences. I am currently working towards a master's degree which I expect to complete in Autumn 2021. My clinical and research interests include narcissism, narcissistic abuse, trauma, therapeutic relationships, and sexuality.

During my undergraduate work, I interned under Dr. Ian McCabe, Jungian child analyst, and clinical psychologist, at the JIFACA centre in Crumlin. While working there I saw clients between the ages of 4 and 18 using a variety of interventions and therapeutic modalities including psychodynamically informed sand play, art and play therapies as well talking therapy. I also interned at LIR Psychological Services in Ballymun working with adult clients.

I am a member of the Kleinian Association of Ireland, where I have undertaken further clinical training in psychoanalytic and psychodynamic methods of working. I am also a pre-accredited member of the NAPCP.

In my practice I see a range of clients, mainly between 16 and 30, presenting with a wide variety of difficulties. I regularly deal with anxiety and depression as well as issues around sexuality, relationships, and identity.

Currently, my practice is open in two clinics, The Self Center Clinic on Main Road, Tallaght, and LIR Psychological Services on the Upper Drumcondra Road.
